In his dream the Small One sees his past and in it he is a baby... The easiest thing for us to have done, was to have taken some cloth and wrapped it around a baby type of shape but that was not what we wanted to do, we wanted his little hands to come out of his blanket type of covering and move out one at a time, or both together, just like a baby wanting his mother.
Nick Daniel, someone who can build anything out of anything was set the problem. With budget restraints and size restraints he set about his task...
What he came up with was very ingenious and very practical to maintain if anything broke though repeated use.
Nick built a hand control device that allowed the person controlling the baby's arms to simply push one or two of the levers, this in turn pulled on two strong wires that ran through two hollow flexible tubes, only a few millimetres in thickness. On the other end was spring loaded miniature arms that were later dressed to look like arms and fingers from the full sized puppet of the Small One.
A wire frame that surrounded the mechanism was added, this prevented the covering material from become tangled and it also gave the devise room to move.
Abandoned and left in the forest the Small One as baby cries out and moves his arms.
